Sister Garden Network

Exploring Solutions Past is connecting community and school gardens around the world to the Känan K’aax garden in Cayo, Belize, in an effort to share the principles and values of forest gardening and to promote sustainable gardening.

Our Goal

To create a network of gardens promoting food forests, serving as resources to one another, and demonstrating mindful stewardship of our environment.

To join our sister garden network, you don’t need to practice the milpa cycle or traditional Maya forest gardening. We welcome all gardens that share these principles of Känan K’aax:

  • Sustainability
  • Organic gardening
  • Education and community outreach

If you are interested in joining our Sister Garden Network, please email us at info@exploringsolutionspast.org

Forest gardens have persisted in many parts of the world for thousands of years. From Central Africa to Southeast Asia, from the Amazon to India this sustainable method of farming is a vital part of agriculture.

Regional differences in forest gardening are based on climate and ecology, yet practices of forest gardeners around the world share basic principles.

As individuals discover ancient agroforestry practices and learn permaculture strategies, food forests are being planted all over the world.

We want to help connect these gardens to each other and to our model Känan K’aax garden in Belize.  This is a network for sharing and supporting forest gardening principles and other sustainable gardening practices.  Community and school gardens are encouraged to join!
